Digital transformation consulting for manufacturers

We take digital transformation from slide deck to shop floor. Maturity assessment, priority use cases and architecture are defined by the engineers who will later deliver them.

Digital transformation consulting means measuring where a plant stands today, clarifying where it wants to go and prioritizing the steps in between. What we often find is software bought in isolation, projects stuck in pilot and “Industry 4.0” presentations with no execution plan behind them.

For assessment we use recognized frameworks such as SIRI (Smart Industry Readiness Index), looking at process, technology and organization separately. After our project collecting data from production equipment and energy systems at Anadolu Isuzu, the client reached level 3 in its SIRI assessment.

What sets us apart from classic consulting is that we are also the team that delivers the roadmap. Every recommended step is tied to a concrete architecture decision, a machine list and a design that will run on Proxus. For companies applying to public digital transformation funding programs, we prepare the technical part together: current state, target architecture and work packages.

What we deliver

Digital Transformation Consulting

  • Maturity assessment

The current state across process, technology and organization is measured with frameworks such as SIRI. Results are backed by concrete findings observed on the floor.

  • Use-case prioritization

Use cases such as downtime tracking, OEE, energy monitoring and predictive maintenance are ranked by business impact and feasibility. Work starts where data is available and impact is visible.

  • Target architecture

How data collection, edge, data model, MES and ERP integration fit together is drawn against the ISA-95 levels. Which existing systems stay and which get integrated is decided.

  • Actionable roadmap

The roadmap is broken into work packages, dependencies and owners. What will be measured at the end of each phase is defined up front.

  • Funding application support

For public digital transformation programs, the current-state analysis, target architecture and work packages are prepared as technical documentation. Financial and administrative parts remain with the company or its appointed advisor.

How a project runs

From discovery to live, step by step

  1. 01

    Site visit and interviews

We interview production, maintenance, quality, planning and IT and walk the lines. Existing systems and data flows are mapped.

  2. 02

    Assessment and findings

The maturity assessment is carried out and findings and opportunities are written up in a report.

  3. 03

    Architecture and roadmap

The target architecture, priority use cases and phased roadmap are agreed with management.

  4. 04

    Kick off the first phase

The roadmap’s first work package, usually data collection and monitoring on a pilot line, goes into delivery.

Built on Proxus

The target architecture we propose is built on Proxus: connectivity, edge, Unified Namespace, historian, rules, dashboards and ERP transfer on one platform. Each phase of the roadmap builds on the previous one instead of starting over.

Proxus is the industrial data platform built by the VOLSOFT team.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions

What does Industry 4.0 consulting deliver?

Industry 4.0 consulting measures where a plant stands in digitalization and decides which steps to take in which order. Done well, it prevents disconnected software purchases and projects stuck in pilot. The output is a workable architecture and a phased roadmap.

What is SIRI?

SIRI (Smart Industry Readiness Index) is an international framework for assessing the Industry 4.0 maturity of manufacturing sites across process, technology and organization. It describes a plant’s current level and improvement areas in a shared language.

Where should a manufacturer start with digital transformation?

For most plants the right start is automatic machine data collection and downtime tracking. Without that data, OEE, predictive maintenance or AI have no solid foundation. Starting with a pilot line and measuring results also clarifies the rest of the roadmap.

How is this different from a strategy consultancy?

We are engineers who also deliver the systems we recommend. Each recommendation is tied to a machine list, an architecture decision and a design on Proxus, so the roadmap is executable rather than aspirational.
